Course Description

This is a cycle training course specifically targeted at teenagers and their parents/carers who want to cycle in town centres and urban areas.

The course will begin with an update to the Highway Code and how it is relevant for cyclists. Following this, riders will be coached by Surrey County Council Cycling Instructors on the four core functions that underpin cycle training:

•  Observation

•  Communication

•  Positioning

•  Understanding Priorities

Surrey County Council Cycling Instructors are training to the National Standard .

The course will take riders on roads with moderate levels of traffic with instructors coaching riders on best practice and safe cycling skills when on out on their bikes. The format of the course may alter according to the skills and requirements of the riders.

The instruction will consist of demonstrations, conversations and coaching.

Where does the training take place?

The training will take place within a dynamically risk-assessed training area.

Course logistics

The course will last for approx. two hours. This course is aimed at families, therefore any riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

What should I bring?

Please bring a water bottle. We recommend wearing high visibility clothing appropriate for the weather and a cycling helmet.
