About the course

Courses are being run as follows:

  • 12:15 - 14:15, Monday 19th August 2024

Please follow the screens to book.

Aim of the training

This course is for under-18s who can't ride a bike and if present, the stabilisers will need to be removed for the training. The training goes through stages of safely getting on and off a bike, braking, steering, getting a good balance and pedalling. Most people are able to achieve these by the end of the course, although it's impossible for us to guarantee it. The training will give the rider the skills to go on and practise.

How long does the training last?

We allocate two hours including a short break.

Are you ready?

Before starting the training, trainees need to have a bike in working condition. If your child's bike has stabilisers, please remove them so we can help your child achieve the balance required.

About our fees

Cycle training is a discretionary service provided by Surrey County Council and it has to cover its costs.

Important Information before you book public training

Are you booking for a group of people?

Also, you as the individual booking the training must ensure that each member of the group agrees to comply with these terms and conditions and has supplied to you the information requested.

You can download a pdf of these terms and conditions if you want to circulate them to others in a group.

Are you aged under 18?

Then you must ask your parent, carer or guardian who is aged over 18 to make this booking on your behalf.

General terms and conditions

  • You must ensure that your bicycle is roadworthy before attending the training session. The Instructor may refuse to train you if your bicycle is not roadworthy. You will not be entitled to a refund if your training cannot proceed because your bike is not roadworthy.
  • Our Instructors are authorised to make minor adjustments with your consent, such as adjusting saddle height, but they are not cycle mechanics and will not repair your bike for you.
  • You accept that the Instructor may at any time refuse to continue the training if your behaviour is deemed to be unsuitable.  This includes behaviour that endangers anyone’s safety or not following reasonable instructions given by Instructor.
  • You have to possess the appropriate cycling skills for the Level of training you are requesting; these are listed [link here]. For example, if you request “Level 3” training but do not have the required “Level 2” skills, the Instructor will be unable to deliver Level 3 training within the time allocated. The Instructor may be able to offer more appropriate training for the time allocated and will discuss this with you. If you are booking for a group please note: it is not usually possible to deliver different levels of training to different individuals within a group who are booked for the same level of training. Refunds will be considered on an individual basis.
  • For any training that is the equivalent of level 2 or Level 3 you will be cycling on roads and you will therefore need to be prepared to interact with other road users.
  • If you do not attend a scheduled session of training, it will be at the Instructor’s discretion as to whether you will be able to continue with the training. You will not be entitled to a refund if you do not attend a training session you have agreed to.
  • Personal information you supply is confidential and we will not disclose it to any other organisation. Your personal information will be deleted from our records once your training is completed. Helmet

Although the law does not compel cyclists of any age to wear helmets, rule 59 of the Highway Code states: 'You should wear a cycle helmet that conforms to current regulations, is the correct size and securely fastened. Evidence suggests that a correctly fitted helmet will reduce your risk of sustaining a head injury in certain circumstances.'

For this reason, we have made it compulsory for everyone participating in cycle training to wear a helmet. Instructors will be wearing helmets. The helmet should conform to to EN1078 or EN1080, please check for a label inside the helmet.

Just before the course, please make sure your child's helmet is correctly fitted - this 1 minute video shows how.

If there are any circumstances which may interfere with your child's ability to wear a helmet, please tell us below.

Physical Contact
